Start your Aswan tour by being picked up from your hotel in Hurghada and taken to the Aswan High Dam, an engineering marvel when it was built in the 1960s. From the top of the High Dam, you can look out across Lake Nasser to the Kalabsha Temple to the south and the massive power plants to the north.
Continue to the Unfinished Obelisk in the Aswan Granite Quarries, where much of the red granite used for ancient temples and colossi comes from. The unfinished obelisk still lies where it was carved when a crack was discovered while it was being carved from the rock. Your qualified Egyptologist guide will explain how the 1-ton obelisk was carved and why it was abandoned due to the crack.
Of the 3 famous sites in Aswan, the last is considered the best. The Philae Temple was carefully relocated to its current location (about 500 meters from its original location) when the rising waters of the Nile River rose during the construction of the High Dam. A short speedboat ride will take you to the island, where your guide will take you on a walking tour of the temple before free time to explore further.
Dedicated to the goddess Isis, the Philae Temple is beautifully situated on an island in the river, decorated to match its original location.
After the tour, you will be transferred to a hotel in Aswan, where you will spend the night and return to Hurghada the next day.
